The philosophical works of the Honourable Robert Boyle esq.: abridged, methodized, and disposed under the general heads of physics, statics, pneumatics, natural history, chymistry, and medicine
A three-volume abridgement of Robert Boyle's experimental writings, edited by the physician Peter Shaw and printed in London by W. and J. Innys in 1725 for gentlemen readers of physics, chemistry and medicine. The plates here are typographic ornaments rather than diagrams: woodcut headpieces and tailpieces in which a central urn or cartouche of flowers and acanthus is flanked by scrolling foliage, perched birds and fretwork brackets, useful as symmetrical page dividers and framing devices.
