The philosophical works of the Honourable Robert Boyle esq.: abridged, methodized, and disposed under the general heads of physics, statics, pneumatics, natural history, chymistry, and medicine
A three-volume London edition of Robert Boyle's experimental writings, abridged and rearranged by the physician Peter Shaw and printed by W. and J. Innys in 1725 for physicians, chemists and natural philosophers. The scanned pages yield printers' tailpiece ornaments cut on wood: lozenge-shaped sprays of acanthus, tulips and carnations built around scrollwork cartouches, with paired eagles or parrots perched at the sides and a pendant basket or bud below, usable as symmetrical vignettes, chapter breaks and border motifs.
