The Photographic art-journal
A monthly trade periodical for American daguerreotypists and photographers, edited by Henry Hunt Snelling and published in New York from 1851. Chapter openings use wood-engraved initial capitals wrapped in acanthus scroll, grape and ivy vines, and grotesque dragon heads that trail down the column edge, giving designers drop-cap alphabets and detachable foliate borders in coarse black line.
