Pia desideria authore Hermanno Hugone
A Latin emblem book of devotional meditations by the Jesuit Herman Hugo, printed at Louvain in 1628 with engravings by Boëtius à Bolswert, aimed at Catholic readers practising private prayer. The plates stage two small figures — a haloed winged Amor Divinus and the Soul as a barefoot woman — chasing, embracing, fleeing and gesturing across sparse grass-tufted ground, giving designers compact silhouetted figures, radiating halos, wind-bent trees and open skies usable as vignettes or spot motifs.
