Pia desideria. : lib. iii. ad Urbanum VIII.
A Latin Jesuit emblem book of devotional verse by Herman Hugo, printed in Antwerp by Hendrick Aertssens in 1632 with engravings by Boëtius à Bolswert, addressed to Pope Urban VIII and to Catholic readers meditating on the soul's longing for God. The 58 upright plates pair a winged, haloed Divine Love with the soul as a child-like woman, set in hatched landscapes with bare trees, hill towns and star-filled skies, supplying compact figure groups, cloud and foliage textures, and framed emblem scenes.
