Picturesque representations of the dress and manners of the English
A costume plate book by William Alexander, published in London in 1813 for British buyers curious about the trades, ranks and regional dress of their own country. Each hand-coloured aquatint shows a single full-length figure with props on a bare rise of ground against pale sky: useful for cut-out figures, uniform colour schemes and period silhouettes.
