Pinacoteca del Palazzo reale delle scienze e delle arti di Milano
A catalogue of the paintings gathered in the Palazzo Reale galleries in Milan, engraved by Michele Bisi with text by Robustiano Gironi and issued by the Stamperia Reale in 1812 for collectors, students and visitors to the new public picture gallery. The plates are outline engravings after Italian altarpieces and devotional canvases: Madonnas enthroned, saints with attributes, lamentations and assumptions, all rendered in unshaded contour line with arched tops, clean drapery folds and empty backgrounds that lift easily as line art.
