Play and recreation for the open country
A 1914 handbook by Henry S. Curtis, published in Boston and New York by Ginn and Company, arguing for organized play, games and recreation centers in rural American communities, aimed at teachers, clergy and country school officials. The halftone photographs show field days, foot races down dirt roads, picnic crowds, sack games on lawns and townspeople gathered outside public buildings, useful for period crowd silhouettes, summer hats and small-town street backgrounds.
