Polydori Vergilii Urbinatis de rerum inventoribus, libri octo : ejusdem in orationem Dominicam commentariolum
Polydore Vergil's Latin treatise on the origins of inventions, printed by Lazarus Zetzner at Strasbourg in 1606 for scholarly readers, in a copy once owned by John Adams. The woodcuts are a printer's device showing a helmeted profile figure with the motto SCIENTIA IMMUTABILIS in a strapwork cartouche, plus foliate initial letters in heavy black line with hatched shading, usable as ornament, monograms, and drop caps.
