A popular history of astronomy during the nineteenth century
Agnes M. Clerke's survey of nineteenth-century astronomical discovery, published in London by A. and C. Black in 1902 for general readers following observatory work. The plates are halftone reproductions of telescope photographs — Milky Way star fields, a comet's split tail, solar prominences in sequence, an eclipse ring, Jupiter and Saturn — grainy white marks on dense black, useful as star texture and astronomical diagram stock.
