A popular history of astronomy during the nineteenth century
Agnes M. Clerke's survey of nineteenth-century astronomy, issued in London by A. and C. Black in 1902 for general readers following the new observational science. Halftone plates reproduce telescope and spectrograph photographs: sequences of solar prominences and a comet's tail, the Orion nebula as a soft grey cloud, and banded spectra printed as white lines on black.
