Poster work in kindergarten and primary grades
A 1914 teaching manual by Johanna Holm, printed at the Chippewa Printery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, showing kindergarten and primary teachers how to build class posters. The plates are long horizontal friezes in which white cut-paper figures—children at play, deer under a full moon, rabbits among tree trunks, swans and a pony cart—stand reserved against speckled dark grounds, giving designers ready-made silhouette borders and high-contrast stencil shapes.
