Pain, William, 1730?-1790? · 1774 · London: Printed for I. Taylor · 115 pictures

A builder's pattern book by William Pain, published in London in 1774 for carpenters, joiners and country builders working without an architect. The plates are line engravings of cornices, chimney-piece profiles, pedestals and capitals, dimensioned in inches and parts, with enriched mouldings — egg-and-dart, acanthus, guilloche — drawn in flat elevation beside their plain sections, useful as ornament borders and measured line stock.
