The practical ostrich feather dyer
A trade manual on dyeing ostrich feathers, written by feather-dyeing instructor Alexander Paul and published in Philadelphia in 1888 for dyers and plume workers in the millinery trade. The plates carry actual dyed feather samples mounted in ruled boxes and captioned with color names and recipe page numbers — cardinal, army blue, old-gold, steel, maroon — giving usable specimens of period dye colors, fine barb textures against aged paper, and a sample-card grid layout.
