Précis des leçons d'architecture données à l'École polytechnique

Durand, Jean-Nicolas-Louis, 1760-1834, Ecole polytechnique (France) · 1805 · À Paris, Chez l'Auteur · 99 pictures

Jean-Nicolas-Louis Durand's architecture lectures, published in Paris in 1805 for engineering students at the École polytechnique, set out a grid-based method for composing buildings from standard parts. The plates are engraved plans, sections and elevations in fine black line, built on ruled axes and modular squares, with hatched walls, rotundas, colonnades and courtyards that yield repeatable geometric patterns and diagrammatic grids.
