A technical handbook by microscopist Thomas Davies, revised by John Matthews, M.D., issued in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1874 for amateur and working microscopists preparing slides. The wood-engraved figures show benches, drying racks with pinned slides, clamps, cutting tools and sectional diagrams of apparatus, offering clean line schematics and labelled parts usable as diagrammatic ornament.
