An alchemical treatise, Petrus Bonus's Pretiosa margarita novella as edited by Giano Lacinio, printed in Venice by the sons of Aldus in 1546 for physicians and scholars of the art. Small woodcuts mix emblem and diagram: a serpent-wound staff topped with tau crosses, a body laid on a lettered sarcophagus, a crowned king facing kneeling petitioners, with planetary signs and inscribed labels.
