A school astronomy textbook by Hiram Mattison, published in New York in 1851 for beginning American pupils. The wood-engraved figures are circular diagrams: globes ruled with meridian grids and tiny standing figures, zodiac bands of stars and signs, orbit paths in dotted line, and hatched spheres labelled with distances in miles.
