Emerson, William, 1701-1782 · 1773 · London : Printed for G. Robinson ... · 55 pictures

William Emerson's textbook of mechanics, published in London in 1773 for gentlemen readers and working artificers — architects, engineers, shipwrights, millwrights and watchmakers. The forty-three copper-plates crowd numbered figures onto each sheet: geared machines, treadmill hoists, water wheels, cranes and pile drivers drawn in fine line with hatched shading, alongside bare geometric diagrams of curves, pendulums and weights on strings.
