The principles of chess in theory & practice..
A chess instruction manual by James Mason, published in London by Horace Cox in 1894 for club and self-taught players. The plates are engraved board diagrams, hatched dark squares against plain light ones, with silhouetted pieces arranged in openings, middlegame positions and bare king-and-pawn endings, usable as grid patterns, game-piece icons and captioned figure blocks.
