Principles of decorative design
A design manual by Christopher Dresser, published in London and New York by Cassell, Petter & Galpin around 1870 to teach ornament to manufacturers, art students and craftsmen. Line and solid-black wood engravings show anthemion and palmette units, interlaced strapwork bands, lozenge panels and repeating borders, usable as flat stencil shapes, tiling motifs and rule-and-frame elements.
