Printing and the renaissance : a paper read before the Fortnightly Club of Rochester, New York / by John Rothwell Slater
A 1921 paper by John Rothwell Slater, read before the Fortnightly Club of Rochester and issued in New York by William Edwin Rudge with typography by Bruce Rogers, on the printers of the Renaissance. The plates reproduce sixteenth-century woodcut printers' marks and ornaments in plain black line: Froben's twin-serpent caduceus with doves and clasped hands, a thistle-and-acanthus vertical border, and a bare tree with a motto banderole.
