Printing types, their history, forms, and use; a study in survivals
Daniel Berkeley Updike's two-volume history of printing types, issued by Harvard University Press in 1922 for printers, typographers and students of the book. The plates reproduce pages from early printed books: white-vine and foliate initials in black grounds, Latin and Spanish text blocks, running heads, and strips of ornament, useful as sources for decorated capitals, borders and period page structure.
