Prodromo, ouero, Saggio di alcune inuentione nuoue, premesso all'arte maestra
Francesco Lana Terzi's Prodromo, printed by the Rizzardi press in Brescia in 1670, sets out proposed inventions — a vacuum-sphere flying ship, writing systems for the deaf and blind, lenses and telescopes — for scholars and patrons of the new science. Sparse line engravings number each figure in Roman numerals and key parts with letters: hatched spheres, jointed rules, compasses, turned stands.
