Promenade charivarique au Salon de Bruxelles 1845
A satirical pamphlet reviewing the 1845 Brussels art Salon, issued anonymously in Brussels and sold by the city's booksellers to gallery-goers who knew the paintings being mocked. The 62 plates are loose pen-and-lithographic caricatures that redraw exhibited pictures as jokes — sagging saints under star-strewn drapery, bored crowds in profile, a bare-branched castle view, a shooting scene in a bordered frame — offering scratchy contour line, heavy black accents and toned paper.
