A congressional document of 1900, printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office, in which the President forwards a State Department report on a proposed American National Institute in Paris for legislators' consideration. The plates are folding surveyors' plans of Paris building lots, engraved in fine line with hand-tinted blue and green washes, carrying numbered parcels, square-metre areas, street names and scale bars \u2014 a source of map lettering, hatching and land-division geometry.
