Prosopographia, sive, Virtvtvm, animi, corporis, bonorvm externorvm, vitiorvm, et affectvvm variorvm delineatio
An emblem book of personified virtues, vices and passions engraved by Philippe Galle and his son Theodoor, with Latin captions and verses by Cornelis Kiel, issued at Antwerp around 1600 for humanist readers and artists seeking a vocabulary of allegory. Each plate holds a single standing woman in classical drapery against a plain hatched ground, named in Roman capitals above and identified by attributes: money bags, torch and bellows, plumb line, olive branch, armour; useful for figure silhouettes, drapery studies, and a ready set of labelled symbols.
