A bilingual Italian-German proverb book of 1718, issued by the Augsburg publisher Johann Christoph Kolb after designs by the Bolognese etcher Giuseppe Maria Mitelli, sold to readers who wanted moral maxims in both languages. Twenty-five hand-coloured plates stage two or three figures acting out each saying against bare ground, a bit of masonry and open sky, with Italian and German verses engraved beneath: useful for gesture studies, period costume in flat red, blue and yellow washes, and caption-block layouts.
