A German treatise on alchemy and medicine by the Basel-born physician Leonhard Thurneisser, printed at Leipzig in 1574 by Hans Steinmann with woodcuts credited to Jost Amman, addressed to physicians and practising alchemists. The cuts show a bearded adept working between a sun-lit and star-lit sky among retorts and rooftop towers, a skeleton scattering blossoms over a dissected body, and small vessel figures set into branching tables of elements and planetary names.
