A multi-volume collection of letters on painting, sculpture and architecture by artists from the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari and printed in Rome by Niccolò and Marco Pagliarini in 1757 for antiquaries, artists and collectors. The plates are typographic ornament: square woodcut initials set against draped curtains, flaming lamps and flower sprays, plus narrow headpiece friezes of putti handling drawing boards, compasses and casks, and the Boston Public Library seal in a laurel wreath.
