A multi-volume collection of letters on painting, sculpture and architecture by Italian artists of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari and printed in Rome by Niccolò and Marco Pagliarini from 1757, for antiquarians and connoisseurs. The woodcuts are typographic ornament: strapwork headpieces with winged half-figures, foliate initials, and seated allegorical women with spear and amphitheatre backdrop.
