An eight-volume Roman anthology of letters on painting, sculpture and architecture by artists of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari and printed by Niccolò and Marco Pagliarini in 1757 for antiquarians, collectors and artists. The plates here are letterpress ornaments: shell-crowned rococo cartouches framing a river-god vignette, a foliate inhabited initial A with a masked head, and a crowned cipher held by winged putti, all usable as headpieces, monogram frames and drop caps.
