Raeburn
A 1905 Boston picture-book from Bates and Guild reproducing the portraits of the Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), issued for art students and general collectors. Halftone plates show half-length sitters — elderly men in dark coats and white stocks, young women in pale empire gowns — lit from one side against near-black grounds, useful for high-contrast vignettes and silhouettes.
