Grassi, Orazio, 1583-1654 · 1627 · Neapoli : Excudebat Matthaeus Nuccius · 1 picture

A 1627 Latin treatise by the Jesuit mathematician Orazio Grassi, printed in Naples by Matteo Nuccio, arguing against Galileo's Saggiatore over the nature of the comets of 1618 for an audience of university-trained natural philosophers. The single plate indexed is an armorial bookplate printed in red: a shield bearing a wyvern, a crest of a mailed fist gripping a halberd, and a ribbon banner lettered AQUILA NON CAPTAT MUSCAS in small capitals, usable as heraldic line art, a motto scroll, or a monogram frame.
