A real history of Newark and notable Newarkers
A 1916 souvenir volume of caricatures by newspaper cartoonist Thomas Fleming, issued by his own syndicate in Newark, New Jersey, portraying local officials, lawyers and businessmen for a civic readership marking the city's 250th anniversary. Full-page pen drawings put photographic likenesses of heads on small colonial-costumed bodies in knee breeches, buckled shoes and cloaks, each paired with a hand-lettered placard, scroll or signboard carrying a mock proclamation.
