Recherches sur les jeux romains
A 1923 academic monograph by André Piganiol, published in Strasbourg and New York, studying Roman circus games, cult and religion for classical scholars and archaeologists. Its plates are photographic halftones of worn reliefs and painted panels showing processions of robed figures, standard-bearers and a spoked-wheel cart, printed sideways on the page with mottled grey grounds useful as textures, silhouetted figure groups and antique ornament sources.
