Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine
A French Jesuit missionary's ethnographic survey of Chinese popular religion, magic and amulets, compiled by Henri Doré and issued in Shanghai by the Catholic mission in 1911 for European scholars and fellow missionaries. Numbered colour plates copy Chinese woodblock prints and paper charms: robed deities of wealth and longevity flanked by attendants, zodiac animals ringing a lobed cartouche of characters, a kneeling man drawing divination sticks, with flat colour, black outline and blank grounds.
