Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine
A study of Chinese popular religion and magic compiled by the Jesuit missionary Henri Doré and issued by the Catholic mission press in Shanghai in 1911 for European scholars and clergy. The plates reproduce numbered talismans and charm-writing in brush ink, with columns of annotating characters beside them: coiled strokes, stacked glyphs, and flame-like tails usable as ornament, monogram, or mark.
