Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine
A French Jesuit missionary's survey of Chinese popular religion, compiled by Henri Doré and issued in Shanghai by the Catholic mission from 1911, aimed at European clergy and scholars studying Chinese gods, monks and ritual practice. The plates are numbered lithographic figures after Chinese folk paintings, hand-tinted in yellow, green and red, showing single standing figures against plain or minimal landscape grounds, plus oval portrait clusters with ribboned name cartouches, each captioned in French and romanized Chinese.
