Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine
A French-language survey of Chinese popular religion compiled by the Jesuit missionary Henri Doré and issued in Shanghai by the Catholic mission in 1911, aimed at missionaries and European students of Chinese belief. Numbered figures show seated deities and ranked immortals in flat hand-applied color — robes in red, yellow, blue and green with patterned hems — alongside plain line blocks of spirit tablets bearing Chinese characters, useful for costume silhouettes, limited bright palettes and framed lettering panels.
