Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine
Henri Doré's Recherches sur les superstitions en Chine, issued in 1911 by the Catholic mission press in Shanghai, is a French-language ethnographic survey of Chinese popular religion, magic and mythology compiled by a missionary for European readers. The plates are numbered colour lithographs after Chinese popular prints, showing episodes from the life of Confucius in flat bright washes of yellow, blue and pink against tiled roofs, latticed railings, courtyard paving and willows, with French captions beneath.
