A Dutch emblem book on the right use and misuse of worldly goods, written by Dirck Volkertszoon Coornhert with engravings after Jan Wierix, reissued in Amsterdam by Dirck Pietersz in 1620 for lay readers of moral instruction. The 32 square plates stage small numbered scenes of almsgiving, beggars, seated rich men and allegorical women with Latin labels, drawn in fine crosshatched line against arcades, town walls and burning houses; useful for dense engraved figure groups, period costume and ready-made framed vignettes.
