Recollections of Auton House
A illustrated memoir of a New England childhood written and drawn by Augustus Hoppin, a Rhode Island artist, reissued by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and New York in 1909 for family and juvenile readers. The 69 pen drawings are loose line sketches with dense diagonal hatching: children climbing ropes and peering through banisters, a bonneted woman in profile, figures carried through snow, all set against plain paper with no frames.
