Recueïl historique de la vie et des ouvrages des plus célebres architectes
Jean-François Félibien's French account of the lives and works of celebrated architects, printed in Paris in 1687 by the widow of Sébastien Mabre-Cramoisy with engravings by Cornelis Vermeulen after Pierre Paul Sevin, aimed at architects, patrons and learned readers. The plates and ornaments run to symmetrical woodcut flower baskets, tulip and pomegranate sprays, a ram's skull swag, and engraved initials set in hatched frames with small figures and a flaming basin—usable as spot ornament, drop caps and section dividers.
