Reflexions critiques sur les différentes écoles de peinture
A French treatise on the schools of painting by the marquis d'Argens, printed in Paris in 1752 for readers of art criticism and connoisseurship. The plates here are typographic ornament rather than subject illustration: square woodcut initials enclosing small landscapes with churches, cottages and trees, plus cast-fleuron tailpieces of scrolling foliage, all usable as drop caps, dividers and page furniture.
