Strutt, Joseph, 1749-1802, B. and J. White · 1793 · London : Printed for Benjamin and John White ... · 60 pictures

An antiquarian plate book by Joseph Strutt, engraved by him and published in London in 1793 for collectors, artists and students of English costume and royal history, copying figures of monarchs and courtiers from medieval illuminated manuscripts. The sixty plates are printed in red-brown ink as small framed scenes: enthroned kings, robed clerics and rows of hooded attendants under Gothic canopies, with flat patterned grounds, heraldic dress and starry mantles useful for period costume reference, ornamental borders and silhouetted figure groups.
