Regvla emblematica sancti Benedicti

Benedict, Saint, Abbot of Monte Cassino, Gallner, Bonifaz, 1678-1727, Schuster, Beda, 1780, Stift Melk. Stiftsbibliothek · 1780 · Vindobonae, Typis Ioannis Thomae · 191 pictures

An emblem edition of the Rule of St Benedict, compiled from Bonifaz Gallner's commentary and issued at Vienna in 1780 for Benedictine monks and novices, with a copy held at Melk Abbey. Each emblem is a small copperplate roundel in a heavy double rule: an open book on a lectern under a descending dove, a hand gripping a cross, a crowned orb above a rayed sun, clouds and stipple skies worked in fine engraved line.
