Religio pictoris
Helen Bigelow Merriman's 1899 essay on art and religion, printed at the Riverside Press in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with typography and ornament by Bruce Rogers for American general readers. The plates are square woodcut-style initials—heavy black roman capitals set against white ivy scrollwork on a cream ground—usable as drop caps, monograms, or tiling patterns of trefoil leaf and vine.
