Religio pictoris
Essays on art and religion by the American painter and writer Helen Bigelow Merriman, printed in 1899 at the Riverside Press in Cambridge with typography by Bruce Rogers for Houghton, Mifflin's literary readers. The illustrations are square woodcut-style initial letters in heavy black, each capital set against interlacing vines and ivy leaves reserved in white, useful as drop caps, monograms, or tile-like ornament.
