The religious system of China, its ancient forms, evolution, history and present aspect, manners, customs and social institutions connected therewith
A Dutch sinologist's multi-volume study of Chinese religion, burial practice and ancestor worship, written by J. J. M. de Groot from fieldwork in Amoy and published by E. J. Brill at Leyden in 1892 for European scholars and colonial officials. The plates are coarse-screen halftone photographs of grave mounds on scrub hillsides, inscribed memorial arches and stone tomb tables, plus diagrams of grave plans and geomantic siting, useful for grainy monochrome landscape textures and Chinese inscribed stonework.
